Interview with the C3 Planning Team – by Crissy Brooks

I had the privilege of sitting down with the planning team for the C3 Basketball Tournament and Community Fair.  C3 is Mika’s longest running tradition, a 3 on 3 basketball tournament where each team is made up of a Cop, Church member and Community representative.  This year the planning team reflects all 3 C’s and there is a lot of excitement for the upcoming community event.

Here are the highlights from my interview with the C3 planning team:

Crissy: What made you want to be on the planning team for C3 and what are you excited about this year?

Corporal Julian Trevino: As community policing officers, it made sense for us to be a part of this event especially since I am assigned to Area 1 where the tournament is being held.  It’s a chance to get to know cops outside the uniform and that benefits the community.  Cops can build relationships and hopefully people will relate to us as real people.  One thing’s for sure.  Someone is definitely going home with a trophy this year!

Pastor Nestor Carcache:  As a pastor, it makes sense for me to serve my community in this way and I serve as the board liaison for the event.  It is going to be a lot of fun with a lot more people, games, food, the fire trucks and a new jersey design.

Jim Schwartz- Church member: This year is going to be bigger with a broader scope.  We are branching out to include all of Costa Mesa by moving the tournament from Shalimar Dr. to the Downtown Recreation Center and having other community organizations involved for the Community Fair.

Mariana Magness- Community representative– It is a chance to connect with people out of your regular circle.  It is an opportunity to give to the community and to receive something back whether that is business contacts, security, or new friendships.  C3 is an opportunity to join forces and build a better and stronger community that reflects a diverse group that we can all be a part of.

We hope to see you there!
